A recap of Canadian ETF flows, performance and market activity for September 14-18, 2026.

Weekly Canadian ETF Trends - Week 38

According to data by Trackinsight, Canadian-listed ETFs recorded inflows across most major asset classes. Fixed income led with CA$2.11 billion, while equity ETFs attracted CA$1.91 billion.

Multi-asset products added CA$283.1 million and commodities gathered CA$73.3 million.

Cryptocurrency ETFs recorded CA$9.9 million in inflows, while currency products saw CA$24.1 million in outflows.

Energy Leads Sector Flows as Health Care Tops Performance

Energy attracted the largest sector inflow at CA$64.2 million, with Financials adding CA$44.5 million and Materials gathering CA$24.9 million. Utilities stood out on the other side with CA$10.8 million in outflows. Performance told a different story, with Health Care gaining 2.08% and Information Technology advancing 1.56%, while Communication Services was the weakest sector at -2.45%.

U.S. ETFs Lead Geographic Flows While Greater China Tops Performance

U.S.-focused ETFs attracted CA$589.7 million, ahead of Canada at CA$414.1 million and Developed Markets at CA$356.6 million. World exposures added CA$207.5 million and Emerging Markets gathered CA$103.3 million. On the performance side, Greater China stood out with a 2.73% gain, while the Eurozone recorded the largest decline at -1.70%.

Global Infrastructure Leads Flows as Cybersecurity Tops Thematic Performance

Global Infrastructure recorded the largest thematic inflow at CA$16.7 million, followed by Cryptocurrency at CA$9.9 million and China Disruptive Technology at CA$9.7 million. Cybersecurity, despite recording CA$3.1 million in outflows, was the strongest-performing theme with an 8.39% gain. BioTech & Genomics also advanced 6.03%, while Cryptocurrency gained 5.57%.

Aggregate Investment Grade Drives Fixed Income Flows

Aggregate Investment Grade ETFs accounted for the bulk of fixed income activity, attracting CA$1.68 billion. Corporate Investment Grade products added CA$182.1 million and Government Investment Grade gathered CA$134.7 million. Municipal Investment Grade ETFs moved in the opposite direction, recording CA$17.9 million in outflows.

Gold Dominates Commodity ETF Flows

Gold accounted for most commodity inflows, attracting CA$71.0 million. Multi Commodities added CA$4.4 million, while Crude Oil and Silver recorded modest outflows.

Bitcoin Leads Cryptocurrency ETF Inflows

Bitcoin recorded the largest cryptocurrency inflow at CA$5.1 million, followed by XRP with CA$3.2 million and Multi-Cryptocurrency products with CA$2.8 million. Ether was the notable exception, posting CA$1.5 million in outflows.
