Here’s a recap of ETF activity across the Canadian market this week, from launches and filings to key updates.

ETF Launches

National Bank Investments Expands SmartData ETF Suite

National Bank Investments launched the NBI SmartData Canadian Equity Fund ETF Series (NSDC), adding Canadian equity exposure to its growing SmartData platform. The actively managed ETF combines a systematic, data-driven investment process with active portfolio management to identify opportunities in the Canadian equity market. NSDC carries a management fee of 0.30% and an administration fee of 0.05%, offering advisors and investors a low-cost active option focused on Canadian equities.

Madison Investments Enters the Canadian ETF Market

Madison Investments marked its entry into Canada's ETF market with the launch of two actively managed U.S. equity ETFs.

The Madison US Mid Cap ETF (MMID) invests in medium-cap U.S. companies using Madison's long-established bottom-up fundamental research process. Built on the firm's existing institutional strategy, the portfolio emphasizes high-quality businesses with durable growth prospects and attractive valuations.

Alongside it, the Madison US Large Cap ETF (MLRG) applies the same disciplined investment philosophy to large-cap U.S. companies, focusing on long-term capital appreciation through concentrated investments in businesses with strong competitive advantages and resilient growth characteristics.

The launches represent Madison Investments' first Canadian-listed ETFs and extend the firm's long-standing active equity strategies to Canadian investors through the ETF structure.

ETF Filings

National Bank Investments has filed three new ETFs that would broaden its lineup across fixed income and income-focused equity strategies. The proposed products include a target maturity corporate bond ETF alongside two covered call equity funds built on the firm's SmartData investment platform.

The NBI Target 2032 Investment Grade Bond Fund – ETF Series (NTGG) is designed to invest primarily in investment-grade bonds issued by North American companies with maturities around 2032, providing investors with a defined maturity fixed-income solution.

National Bank also filed the NBI SmartData U.S. Equity Covered Call Fund – ETF Series (NUCC) and the NBI SmartData International Equity Covered Call Fund – ETF Series (NICC). Both funds will combine the firm's systematic SmartData equity selection process with a covered call strategy, writing options on approximately 30% to 60% of their portfolios to generate additional income while maintaining exposure to U.S. and international equities, respectively.
