Here’s a recap of ETF activity across the Canadian market this week, from launches and filings to key updates.

Latest ETF Launches

Hamilton and Corton Add Active Equity-Income Strategies

Hamilton ETFs and Westcourt Capital launched the Westcourt Hamilton Yield Portfolio ETF (WHYP), an actively managed fund targeting monthly income and long-term risk-adjusted returns through a diversified portfolio of ETFs focused mainly on large-cap equities. The strategy combines Hamilton’s options expertise with Westcourt’s asset-allocation and risk-management approach. WHYP began trading September 10 in Canadian-dollar units, with WHYP.U available as an unhedged U.S.-dollar series.

Corton Capital launched the Corton Theta Alpha Fund (TPUT), converting a strategy previously offered as a private pooled fund. The actively managed ETF invests primarily in North American securities and related options, combining core equity positions with an active written-options overlay designed to support income and total returns.

Vanguard Brings Its First Active Fixed Income ETF to Canada

Vanguard launched the Global Core-Plus Bond ETF (VCOR), marking its first actively managed fixed income ETF in Canada. The fund invests globally across rates, credit and securitized markets, combining investment-grade bonds with higher-yielding opportunities. VCOR carries a 0.25% management fee, hedges U.S.-dollar exposure to the Canadian dollar and expects to make monthly distributions.

Corton Debuts Multi-Asset Global Macro ETF

Corton Capital launched the Corton Rosenberg Global Macro Fund (ROSY), an actively managed ETF investing globally across equities, bonds, currencies and commodities. The unconstrained strategy seeks positive total returns across market cycles while emphasizing capital preservation and cash flow. ROSY began trading following its September 8 initial offering, with ROSY.U available as a U.S.-dollar purchase option..

Latest ETF Filings

Middlefield Files Two Global Credit Strategies

Middlefield filed for two actively managed global fixed income ETFs. MGFI would seek monthly income and long-term capital preservation through sovereign, investment-grade, high-yield, emerging-market and securitized debt and carry a 0.60% management fee. MAGF would invest across similar markets while adding alternative strategies, including short selling and borrowing of up to 50% of NAV each, with a 0.80% management fee.

Other ETF Industry Updates

Canadian XRP ETF Options Extend Into the U.S.

Options on the Canadian-listed Evolve XRP ETF and Purpose XRP ETF have been registered for sale in the U.S. after beginning trading on the Montreal Exchange. The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation disclosed the registrations in a September 9 SEC filing, adding XRP-linked derivatives to Canadian products already available on bitcoin, ether and solana ETFs.

CI Lowers CFRT Risk Rating

CI Global Asset Management lowered the risk rating of the CI Floating Rate Income Fund ETF C$ Series (CFRT) from “Low-to-Medium” to “Low.” The change does not alter the fund’s investment objectives, strategy or management. CI also introduced a new blended reference index combining leveraged loans, short-term U.S. high-yield debt and Canadian short-term corporate bonds.

Manulife Expands ETF-Based Segregated Fund Lineup

Manulife Canada added eight segregated funds and expanded access to 11 existing strategies, including several products based on ETFs. New offerings include the Manulife Smart International Dividend ETF, Smart Short-Term Bond ETF, BlackRock Core Equity ETF and Invesco NASDAQ 100 ETF segregated funds, while four existing ETF-based strategies are also gaining broader availability.

BMO InvestorLine Eliminates Stock and ETF Commissions

BMO InvestorLine will eliminate trading commissions across stocks and ETFs, along with account administration fees.
